Flight from San Francisco to India would be the world's longest non-stop
Because the only thing we dislike more than an incredibly long flight is an incredibly long flight with a layover, Air India may be coming to our rescue.
The current record holder for longest flight is the back-breaking, soul-crushing trip from Dallas to Sydney, clocking in at 17 hours (8,575 miles), though that's about to change with a Dubai-Panama City flight coming in February, and rumor has it that Singapore Airlines may be bringing back the Singapore-to-New York 19-hour marathon. But if that is not enough time to consider yourself a victor in your armrest battle, Air India may soon introduce a whole new level of leg and brain cramping.
Reports in Indian media suggest a new flight could soon launch between San Francisco and India (either Delhi or Bangalore), with a whopping 8,701 mile one-way flight. That makes it the longest by more than 100 miles. For those traveling between the two tech hubs, this is great news. The rumors also seem to be coinciding with the Prime Minister of India's visit to the Silicon Valley.
According to the Times of India, a senior Air India official said:
“We are planning to have a nonstop from either Delhi or Bengaluru to San Francisco on our Boeing 777-200 long range aircraft. And in addition we are planning a direct service between Ahmedabad and London due to the huge demand for travel between these two cities,”
Road Warrior Voices has reached out toAir India and will update the story as soon as we hear back.
