This hotel rents luxe coworking spaces in its lobby

The hotel lobby is traditionally an afterthought for most travelers. It's a place to be passed through, with a polite nod to the desk attendant. But some companies are purposefully crafting a different experience in their lobbies, turning the shared space into a lively communal area where conversations melt together, as telecommuters and leisurely vacationers alike sip coffee and type-type-type away. Midtown NYC's Ace Hotel and Singapore's Wanderlust Hotel are places that offer this kind of atmosphere.

But one Austrian hotel is taking the communal lobby vibe to the next level, renting temporary workstations to guests and locals by the day. Hotel Schani's Co-working Market Place rents flex desks to Vienna's location-independent workforce, who also gain access to a dining area and lounge, all in what we would traditionally call the hotel's lobby. The "coworking hotel," as it has become known, also features 135 rooms, so there is no shortage of temporary guests availing themselves of the services.

A flex desk for the day will set travelers back €10.00, or locals can rent a semi-permanent desk for €190.00 for the month. Ultra high-speed internet, a locker, and color printing services round out the list of perks in the coworking hotel's lobby. An even more tricked out €350.00 option will score you a few extra conveniences, like four beverages a day and a pin board at your desk. If you need to host a meeting, conference rooms are also available for rent.

In early 2016, Hotel Schani will unveil an urban oasis on its grounds, offering coworkers a reason to hang around the hotel even after they sign off for the day.
