Pinterest adds location info and maps to pins, making trip planning easier

Further proving that Pinterest is not just for blushing brides and eager house redecorators, the platform has introduced new bells and whistles to pins to help people actually find and visit those picture-perfect, far-off locales they find on the platform.

Pinterest introduced "place pins" in late 2013 that added location info like addresses and phone numbers to pins after noticing people were pinning about 1.5 million places daily. Now, the platform will automatically add the location lowdown to some 7 billion Pins, which will also include a map preview, the company announced this week.

With the new upgrades you can tap on the location to see all other Pins linked to the spot, as well as tips from prior visitors. You also can hit the listed phone number to call the location directly, as well as access directions via Google or Apple maps, all right in-app. Is it just me, or is this sounding a lot like Foursquare? Not that that's bad — I for one am into the update and more than happy to lose myself for hours in a stupor of scrolling through beautiful pictures in the name of productive trip planning.
