Maintenance crew inspects American Airlines plane after worker's ill-advised selfie
Earlier this year, Russia's Interior Ministry released a campaign about how to practice Safe Selfies, reminding everyone with a smartphone and a social media account that they shouldn't do anything ridiculous just to collect a few Instagram likes. An unnamed airport contractor apparently didn't get the memo — and American Airlines had to take a plane for inspection because of his selfie.
The man, reportedly an employee of Swissport, was seen climbing onto the wing of an American Airlines 737 at Boston's Logan Airport on Thursday night. In a statement to Road Warrior Voices, American Airlines spokesperson Katie Cody said:
"A contractor working at the airport (NOT an AA employee) was seen taking a selfie on an American Airlines plane parked in the AA hangar at Boston-Logan last night. Someone saw the man and called police who took his security badge and escorted him off [the] property. American checked the plane for damage, but the plane is now back in service."
Cody said that since the plane was not in service, no flights were affected by this guy's bad choices. According to CBS Boston, the Massachusetts State Police said that no charges would be filed. (But just in case you were thinking of scrambling onto the wing of an aircraft just for the LOLs and the sweet, sweet Snapchats: don't).
Road Warrior Voices has reached out to Swissport and the Massachusetts Port Authority for comment.
