At least that record-setting 19 hour flight will have high speed Wi-Fi

After announcing the return of the world's longest flight, Singapore Airlines is beginning to release details about what the record-setting 19 hour nonstop flight from NYC to Singapore might entail. There is some good news for the passengers onboard: there will be high-speed Wi-Fi to help pass the time.

Passengers will have access to internet speeds approaching what some would find in their own homes, thanks to Singapore's selection of SITAONAIR's Inmarsat’s GX Satellite network, capable of providing Wi-Fi speeds of 50 mbps. Passengers will also be able to use the onboard internet to text message (but please, no talking on the phone).

Ian Dawkins, CEO of SITAONAIR, spoke of the new partnership:

“Singapore Airlines is one of the most respected carriers in the world. By choosing SITAONAIR services, it clearly demonstrates the superiority of GX Aviation in terms of passenger experience, reliable and global coverage. The introduction of GX Aviation opens up a whole new world of opportunities for the connected aircraft."

Each of Singapore's A350 ultra-long-range aircraft assigned to the NYC to SIN route will take nearly a day to traverse the globe before touching down. So if possible, it's probably a good idea to plan that trip to Singapore in conjunction with Netflix releasing the next season of House of Cards.
