Take a tour of vibrant Hong Kong in VR
HONG KONG - They say getting there is half the fun. In Hong Kong, sometimes it’s 100% of the fun. In this buzzing city, you can choose between ferries, double-decker trams, even glass-bottom gondolas, all before lunch.
Can’t make the trip on your own? Get your ticket to ride in VR, in the latest episode of VRtually There from the Paste BN NETWORK.
Almost every conceivable form of transportation exists here, for good reason: It’s crowded. Really crowded. With over 7 million people crammed into just 400 square miles, Hong Kong is one of the most densely-populated places on earth. Plentiful, efficient transportation is the only way Hong Kong works.
But the rides can be romantic. On the rickety double-decker trams, you have a front-row seat to the city. Winding through the heart of town, as constant bustle plays out in the streets below, warm breezes laced with aromas from countless food stalls waft through the open-air cabin.
On the Star Ferry, you’re traveling the same way Hong Kongers have for over 130 years. It’s still one of the cheapest and best ways to cross Victoria Harbor, with a world-class view to boot.
Hong Kong has upped the ante in recent decades. It’s home to the world’s largest covered escalator system, moving the masses to and from neighborhoods tucked amid the steep hillsides.
And out of town on Lantau Island, where one of the world’s largest seated Buddhas presides over the mountains, old and new collide. A trip to see the Buddha used to require a stomach-churning bus ride up the mountain. Today, you can jump on a gleaming new glass-bottom gondola.
