Wednesday's forecast: Heat hits the Northeast
The Northeast can expect high temperatures, while the West will see some flash flooding. The South will be hot and dry mainly Wednesday, along with the Midwest that will be mostly dry with just a few showers.

Wednesday will be a soggy day for much of the nation, especially in portions of the Northeast and Southwest, where drenching thunderstorms are likely. Florida will also have its usual afternoon thunderstorms while lighter showers are in the forecast in the Lower Mississippi Valley and southern and central Plains.
Blistering, mid-summer heat will persist in portions of the Plains, Midwest and Eastern Seaboard.
Weather history for Sept. 11: In 1961, Hurricane Carla battered the central Texas coast with wind gusts to 175 mph and up to 16 inches of rain. The hurricane killed 45 people, and caused $300 million damage. In 1986, thunderstorms caused floods in Michigan. Up to 14 inches of rain fell, and the flooding caused $400 million damage.
