Friday's forecast: Cool temps after storms

Another soggy day is in store Friday for most of the Southwest and Rockies. Heavy rain and thunderstorms could again trigger more flash floods in Colorado. The Southeast and Florida will also see scattered showers and storms, but not as intense as in the West.
Elsewhere, most of the Northeast and Midwest will enjoy a cooler, drier day after a week of hot, humid weather. The West coast will also be dry, but on the hot side.
Weather history for Sept. 13: In 1984, Hurricane Diana made landfall in eastern North Carolina. The hurricane deluged Cape Fear with more than 18 inches of rain, and caused $78 million damage in North Carolina. In 1989, unseasonably cool weather spread across the central Plains, with a record low of 29 degrees set in North Platte, Neb.
