Friday's forecast: More showers in the middle

A few parts of the central and eastern U.S. will see wet weather on Friday while most of the West will be clear, warm and dry.
Rain and thunderstorms are forecast to soak portions of the Plains Friday, with the heaviest showers likely in Kansas and Oklahoma. Showers could also dampen portions of the Gulf Coast and northern Florida.
A few snowflakes are possible in the northern Plains and northern Rockies.
The Northeast should see morning showers that will diminish during the afternoon.
The rest of the country should be dry, with the warmest weather in the West Coast, Southwest and Southeast, where temperatures should rise into the 70s and 80s.
Weather history for Oct. 18: In 1906, a hurricane lashed South Florida, killing 124 people in the Florida Keys. The eye took 30 minutes to pass over Miami. In 1930, a huge lake-effect snowstorm walloped New York, with 4 feet of snow reported just south of Buffalo. In 1998, in Aransas, Texas, 6.5 inches of rain fell in just three hours.
