The central US will again have the nation's most volatile weather on Wednesday with rainfall predicted all the way from Minnesota to Texas.

The southern and central Plains are forecast to see severe thunderstorms, as strong winds and large hail could pound cities such as Dallas, Oklahoma City and Kansas City. Rain will also pelt much of the northern Plains, upper Midwest and upper Mississippi Valley.

Snow is again expected to fly across the mountains of Utah, Wyoming and especially western Colorado on Wednesday. Two other showery areas will be New England and the Pacific Northwest.

The rest of the U.S., including the mid-Atlantic, Southeast, Southwest and California, will enjoy a tranquil day with typical late-October temperatures.

Weather history for Oct. 30: In 1948, deadly smog caused by an inversion killed 20 people in Donora, Pa. In 1985, heavy rain from Hurricane Juan drenched coastal Texas and Louisiana. In 1996, winds that roared up to 80 mph shattered glass in Pittsburgh skyscrapers.
