Friday's forecast: Pretty quiet coast to coast

After a wild week, the weather will calm down considerably Friday, with only a few pockets of showers dotting the nation.
North: The far northern tier will see some nuisance showers and cool conditions. This includes parts of the Pacific Northwest, northern Plains, upper Midwest and Northeast.
Southeast, Florida: Showers and a few thunderstorms will drench portions of the Southeast coast and much of northern and central Florida. None of the storms should reach severe levels.
West: Torrid conditions will scorch the Southwest and most of California. Temperatures will soar into the 80s and 90s under full sunshine.
Weather history for May 2: In 1968, in Juniper Lake, Ore., the temperature rose from a morning low of 0 degrees to an afternoon high of 81 degrees.
In 2001, Providence, R.I., had a record high temperature of 92 degrees. In 2009, the roof of a Dallas Cowboys training facility collapsed during a storm, injuring several people.
