Tuesday's forecast: Wild weather in store

More wild weather is in store for Tuesday, with flash floods in the Southwest, severe storms in the Midwest and even some late-afternoon snow in the northern Rockies.
Midwest, Plains: Severe weather is possible Tuesday afternoon in portions of the Upper Mississippi Valley and central Plains. The area of greatest concern is in eastern Nebraska, northwest Missouri and Iowa. The primary threat with these storms will be damaging winds.
Sizzling highs near 100 degrees will bake the southern Plains.
Southwest: Ongoing downpours will continue to drench portions of the Desert Southwest, potentially leading to more flooding.
Northern Rockies: A cold rain and even some light snow will make an unwelcome September appearance in the far northern Rockies Tuesday.
Southeast, Mid-Atlantic: A slow moving storm will dump rain along the mid-Atlantic Coast Tuesday, with more floods possible. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are also possible in the Southeast and Florida.
Weather history for Sept. 9: A hurricane struck Galveston, Texas, killing more than 6,000 people, the nation's deadliest natural disaster of all time. In 1944, a hurricane hit the Mid-Atlantic and New England, killing more than 400 people.
In 1965, Hurricane Betsy smashed into the Florida Keys, killing 75 people.
