The weather of summer, fall and winter will all be represented in some form across the U.S. on Thursday.

Eastern U.S.: A cold front rolling toward the Eastern Seaboard will trigger showers and thunderstorms all the way from the mid-Mississippi Valley to the Northeast. The South will stay hot and humid with highs well into the 90s from Texas to the Carolinas.

North-central states: Temperatures will be fall-like for much of the north-central U.S. Thursday, with highs only in the 40s, 50s and 60s from the northern Rockies to the Great Lakes. Snow and sleet will bring a wintry feel to parts of Montana, Wyoming and South Dakota.

West Coast: Clear skies and warm to hot temperatures will make for a pleasant day from Seattle to San Diego.

Weather history for Sept. 11: Hurricane Iniki hit Hawaii, the most powerful and destructive hurricane in the state's history. The storm killed six people and caused $1.6 billion in damages.

In 2009, Portland, Ore., hit a record high of 93 degrees.
