West: A fairly potent fall storm will soak the Pacific Northwest with rain, especially along the coast. The rest of the West will be clear and dry Wednesday.
Central U.S.: Except for some brief showers in the central Plains and upper Midwest, most of the central portions of the U.S. will be dry, breezy and warm.
Weather history for Sept. 24: In 1989, 42 record low temperatures were set, including 31 degrees in Topeka and 33 in Detroit. In 2005, Hurricane Rita made landfall near the Texas/Louisiana Border.
