Wednesday's forecast: Drenching rain for eastern U.S.

Most of the eastern third of the nation will see soggy conditions Wednesday due to a slow-moving cold front that's heading for the East Coast.
East: Parts of the Southeast, Great Lakes and Mid-Atlantic will slog through rain and wind throughout the day. Some flooding is possible due to the heavy rain. Temperatures will be mild before the cold front roars through.
Northwest: The Pacific Northwest will also see rain and cool temperatures, mainly in the 50s.
Central U.S.: Most of the central U.S. will see clear skies Wednesday. Temperatures will be cool in the northern Plains and upper Midwest but quite mild in the central and southern Plains.
Weather history for Oct. 15: In 1954, Hurricane Hazel slammed into the East Coast with heavy rain and howling winds; the storm killed 98 people in the U.S. and 80 more in Canada. In 1984, roughly a foot of snow buried Denver during a Monday Night Football game.
In 1996, a record cold temperature of 3 degrees was recorded on Mt. Washington, N.H.
