Thursday's forecast: Rain for the Northeast

The northeastern portion of the nation will see the worst weather Thursday with plenty of heavy rain and thunderstorms.
Northeast: The slow-moving cold front will continue its slog through the East on Thursday, dumping rain over the Northeast and New England.
Great Lakes: Showers and cool temperatures will spread over the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley.
West: Most of the western half of the nation will be clear and dry Thursday, except for the rainy Pacific Northwest coast. The northern Rockies will be in the cool 40s and 50s but the Southwest will be warm, in the 80s.
Southeast: The Southeast will be mild and dry.
Weather history for Oct. 16: In 1785, black rain fell over eastern Canada due to forest fires in Ontario. In 1913, the temperature soared to 101 degrees in San Francisco, an October record.
In 1991, the temperature dropped to 25 degrees in Flint, Mich., a record low. On the same day, the temperature soared to 91 degrees in Rapid City, S.D.
