Friday's forecast: Lingering rain Northeast, Great Lakes

The showery pattern will continue for one more day in parts of the Northeast and Great Lakes Friday, while more rain drenches the Pacific Northwest coast.

Northeastern U.S.: Both New England and the Great Lakes states will see rain, some of it on the heavy side. The heaviest rain will be in Maine.

Western, central U.S. Almost the entire area west of the Mississippi River will be clear on Friday, except for the Pacific Northwest coast from Washington to northern California. The northern Plains will be breezy and cool while the Rockies, Southwest and rest of the Plains are mainly in the 80s.

Weather history for Oct. 17: In 1091, a tornado destroyed 600 houses and blew the roof off of a church in London, England. In 1950, Hurricane King hit Miami with winds of 122 mph, killing four people.

In 1998, Flagstaff hit a record low temperature of 18 degrees.
