Wednesday's forecast: Snowy Great Lakes, milder South

More lake-effect snow will continue to slam portions of the Great Lakes Wednesday while somewhat milder air slides across the central and southern U.S.
Great Lakes: More heavy snow is forecast in the Great Lakes, with the biggest totals in New York State. Temperatures will remain frigid throughout the region and in the Upper Midwest.
South: After a frigid start, a modest warm-up is forecast for much of the southern Plains and Deep South as temperatures rise into the 40s and 50s.
West: Rain is likely in portions of the Pacific Northwest and northern California. Snow and ice is expected in the Cascades.
Weather history for Nov. 19: In 1957, 19 inches of snow fell in Cresco, Iowa, a state record for November. In 1990, a slow-moving storm dumped up to 2 feet of rain in Hawaii.
In 1996, Roswell, N.M., soared to a record high of 88 degrees, an all-time November record. In 2012, winds gusted to 114 mph in Naselle Ridge, Wash.
