Friday's forecast: Stormy in southern Plains, West

Friday will end a busy weather week with more wild weather, including thunderstorms in the South, snow in the Great Lakes and a big storm in the West.
South: Heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely in the southern Plains on Friday. Hail is the main threat, but some tornadoes are also possible.
Central U.S. A wintry mix of snow, rain and ice is likely in the central Plains and upper Midwest Friday. Fortunately, the lake-effect snow machine will be winding down in the Great Lakes by later in the day.
West: Heavy rain will drench the coast and valleys of the Pacific Northwest and northern California. Heavy snow will paste the higher elevations of the Rockies and Cascades.
Weather history for Nov. 21: Hurricane Kate hit south Florida with winds as high as 100 mph. In 1990, record warmth overspread the Plains and Midwest, with highs into the 70s in Iowa and Kansas.
In 1997, an F2 tornado hit Covington, La., injuring 25 people and damaging 80% of the town's buildings.
