Thursday's forecast: Soggy and mild for much of nation

Mild, soggy and rather dreary weather is forecast Thursday for large parts of the nation.
West: Rain is again likely in California and Oregon Thursday. Scattered thunderstorms will dampen the Southwest and mountain snow expected in the northern Rockies.
Central U.S.: Showers are forecast in the southern Plains, Mississippi Valley and Ohio Valley. A wintry mix of rain, snow and ice could cause travel troubles in the central Plains and near the Great Lakes.
East: Most of the eastern seaboard will be dry except for parts of New England and eastern Florida.
Weather history for Dec. 4: In 1978, Norfolk, Va., hit a December record high temperature of 80 degrees. In 1989, Lakeland, Fla., saw a record low of 34 degrees.
In 2002, a devastating ice storm led to hundreds of accidents and widespread power outages in the Carolinas.
