Friday's forecast: Rain in both West and East

Much of the eastern half of the nation will deal with some form of precipitation Friday, as will the West Coast.
Eastern U.S.: Showers and thunderstorms will spread across the Ohio valley, Lower Great Lakes and Northeast during the day on Friday. There will be enough cold air for a wintry mix in the Midwest, Appalachians, and in New England.
West: The West coast will see another damp day on Friday. Heavy rain and snow is likely in Washington, Oregon and northern California. Snow is also forecast in the northern Rockies.
Weather history for Dec. 5: In 1953, a tornado killed 38 people in Vicksburg, Miss. It remains the USA's deadliest December tornado on record. In 2003, a winter storm dumped heavy snow on the Northeast, including 14 inches in New York City.
