Tuesday's forecast: Soggy, stormy Southeast

Rain and thunderstorms will wallop the Southeast Tuesday while snow flies in the Upper Midwest.
Southeast: A few strong to severe thunderstorms are possible from the southern parts of the lower Mississippi valley through the Gulf Coast states on Tuesday. Damaging wind gusts, large hail and tornadoes could impact cities such as New Orleans and Tallahassee. Flooding is also possible.
North-central states: Light snow will coast portions of the central and northern Plains, Upper Midwest and Great Lakes states on Tuesday. The heaviest snow is likely in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Northeast: Some showers and a wintry mix of precipitation is forecast in the Northeast and New England.
Weather history for Dec. 23: In 1989, snow fell in Sarasota, Tampa and Jacksonville, Fla. In 1990, record warmth spread into Boston (67 degrees) and Philadelphia (66).
