Tuesday's forecast: Snowy Southwest, soggy Southeast

Tuesday's main weather action will be in the Southwest and Southeast, while very cold conditions prevail in the north-central states.
West: Heavy snow will fall across the mountains of Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado on Tuesday, with some spots picking up about a foot. Lighter amounts of snow will fall in Utah, Wyoming and Idaho.
Southeast: A slow-moving cold front will continue to bring some light rain to much of the Southeast and Florida on Tuesday. By late in the day, snow and a wintry mix are likely in portions of North Carolina and Virginia.
North-central U.S.: Another round of bitterly cold temperatures will plague much of the Upper Midwest, Ohio Valley and Great Lakes, with highs in the teens and subzero lows expected for Tuesday as well as Wednesday.
Weather history for Jan. 13: In 1888, the temperature fell to -65 degrees in Fort Keogh, Mont., one of the USA's coldest readings ever. In 1964, 17.6 inches of snow fell in State College, Pa., a January 24-hour snowfall record for the city.
In 1981, Key West, Fla., dropped to 41 degrees, the lowest temperature on record for the city.
