Wednesday's forecast: Mostly quiet coast-to-coast

A quiet weather day is on tap for most of the nation after a wild Tuesday in the Northeast. Some light snow will fall in a few spots across the northern tier.
East: Other than some morning snow and wind in New England from the departing blizzard, the remainder of the East Coast will be clear and dry on Wednesday.
Central U.S.: Most of the central U.S. will be sunny and mild, though some light afternoon snow will fly in the Upper Midwest.
West: Fog will blanket parts of the Pacific Northwest. Morning snowshowers are possible in the northern Rockies.
Weather history for Jan. 28: In 1772, the so-called "Washington and Jefferson" snowstorm dumped three feet of snow in northern Virginia. In 1944, January record high temperatures were tied in both Charlotte (79 degrees) and Greensboro (78 degrees).
