Wednesday's forecast: Snow from Plains to Northeast

Most of the weather action Wednesday will be in the eastern half of the country, with a stripe of snow from the central Plains to the Northeast and some rain in the South.

Plains to Northeast: Spotty light snow, in the amount of 1-3 inches, will fly in the central Plains, Great Lakes and interior Northeast. Other than in the far northern Plains, temperatures in the region will be chilly but not brutally cold.

South: A soggy Wednesday is on tap for most of the southeastern U.S., all the way from eastern Texas to the Carolinas.

West: Morning fog is likely in California. Some snow showers are also predicted in the central and northern Rockies.

Weather history for Feb. 4: In 1985, the temperature dropped to a record low of -30 degrees in Sheridan, Wyo. In 1991, a record high of 72 degrees was set in Baltimore.
