Friday's forecast: Mostly quiet coast to coast

Following a wild week of storms, the weather calms down dramatically on Friday for most of the country, with only a few minor trouble spots.
East: After a very cold start to the day, with temperatures at near record low readings, clear skies will allow folks in the Ohio Valley, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast to dig out from Thursday's snowstorm. Temperatures will only rise to the 20s and 30s in many locations, far below early March averages.
Southeast: The departing storm will deliver a wintry mix to the Outer Banks and some showers to the Southeast coast and most of Florida.
Midwest: Some snow will fly in the Upper Midwest and around the Great Lakes, but amounts should be on the light side.
West: The entire western half of the nation will be sunny, mild and dry on Friday.
Weather history for March 6: In 1960, Greensboro, N.C., dropped to 5 degrees, the city's coldest March temperature on record. In 1996, a tornado killed six people in Alabama.
