Tuesday's forecast: A few severe storms in central U.S.

A few severe storms could rattle portions of the central U.S. on Tuesday.
Central U.S.: Severe thunderstorms will bring large hail and strong winds Tuesday to portions of Missouri, Oklahoma and Arkansas. Some showers will dampen the northern Plains and upper Midwest.
East: A few showers will dot the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast coast on Tuesday. The Northeast will stay chilly, with temperatures some 10-15 degrees below average.
West: Other than some light snow in the northern Rockies and light showers along the Pacific Northwest coast, the rest of the western third of the country will be clear and dry.
Weather history for March 24: In 1975, a tornado hit Atlanta, killing three people and damaging 500 homes, including the governor's mansion. In 2012, a record high temperature of 70 degrees was set in Duluth, Minn.
In 2014, record cold temperatures were set in the Northeast, including minus 6 degrees in Montpelier, Vt., and 22 in New York City.
