Wednesday's forecast: More heavy rain for Southeast

Spring rains will again drench the southeastern U.S. Wednesday while cold and snow persists in the western mountains.

South: More rain and thunderstorms are forecast along the Gulf Coast and in the Southeast. Some of the heaviest rain is expected in Alabama, Georgia and the Florida Panhandle. A few afternoon thunderstorms are possible in the southern Plains.

West: Heavy snow is expected in the central and northern Rockies, with Idaho, Montana and Wyoming seeing the highest totals of up to 8 inches. Rain will fall at lower elevations of the High Plains. The rest of the West will see sunny skies.

Weather history for April 15: In 1921, from the 14th to the 15th, Silver Lake, Colo., picked up 75.8 inches of snow in 24 hours, the USA's all-time snow record for a 24-hour period.

In 1927, New Orleans received 14.01 inches of rain, the city's all-time record for rain in 24 hours.
