Wednesday's forecast: More soaking rain for the Plains

The sodden south-central U.S. will see yet another wet day on Wednesday while most of the East and Southwest stays dry.

Central U.S.: Heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast to drench the central and southern Plains. The heaviest rain will be in eastern New Mexico and in Texas, where flash flooding is possible. Lighter showers are likely in the northern Plains.

East: Most of the eastern third of the nation will see sunny skies. Some morning showers are expected in the Northeast and afternoon showers and storms in Florida.

West: The Southwest will be hot and dry while the Pacific Northwest and northern Rockies see showers. Light snow is likely in the highest elevations of the Rockies.

Weather history for May 13: In 1981, a tornado destroyed 90% of the town of Emberson, Texas. No one was killed, though a man was hurled about 1/4 of a mile while in a bathtub. In 1985, over a foot of snow fell in the mountains west of Denver.

In 1991, Wilmington, Del., set a record high temperature of 89 degrees.
