Tuesday's forecast: A few storms for East Coast, upper Midwest

Hot temperatures and a few thunderstorms will bring a summery feel to much of the country on Tuesday.
East: Some showers and thunderstorms are likely along the East Coast Tuesday. The heaviest rain will be in the Northeast and the Appalachians. The Gulf Coast should see some storms as well.
Central U.S.: Afternoon severe storms are possible in the upper Midwest with hail and wind the main threats. Scorching heat in the mid-90s is forecast for most of the central and Southern Plains.
West: Most of the western third of the nation will be clear and hot on Tuesday, though some scattered afternoon showers and storms are possible in the Rockies and the Southwest.
Weather history for June 9: In 1913, Baltimore dropped to a June record low of 46 degrees. In 1953, the worst tornado in New England history hit Worcester, Mass., killing 90 people and injuring over 1,000.
In 1966, Hurricane Alma hit Florida. In 1972, a flash flood killed 242 people in Rapid City, S.D.
