Thursday's forecast: High heat East, stormy in the northern Plains, Midwest

High heat and humidity will bake the eastern half of the nation Thursday while a few storms rattle the north-central U.S.
East: Most of the eastern half of the nation will see temperatures in the 80s and 90s with a fair amount of humidity. Some showers and storms in the Southeast and Northeast will add to the soggy feel.
Central U.S.: The southern Plains will also be in the hot and humid 90s. Temperatures will be cooler in the central and northern Plains and upper Midwest thanks to clouds and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could reach severe levels from Kansas to Michigan.
West: Showers and thunderstorms will again drench portions of the central Rockies on Thursday. The rest of the West will be clear and mild.
Weather history for June 11: In 1947, Denver recorded its latest snowfall on record. In 1972, the temperature fell to a June record low of 34 degrees in Pittsburgh and 40 degrees in Baltimore.
