Friday's forecast: Steam heat East, wet Great Lakes, Rockies

The East Coast will be a steam bath on Friday while a few storms pelt the Rockies and Great Lakes.

West: Most of the western third of the country will be clear and warm on Friday. The one exception will be the central Rockies, where rain will fall, especially in Colorado.

East: High heat and steamy humidity will bring a summery feel to the Eastern Seaboard. Some afternoon showers and storms are likely in the Southeast and Florida as well as interior portions of the Northeast and New England.

Central U.S.: The northern Plains will be in the pleasant 70s while temperatures soar into the 90s in the southern Plains. Heavy rain and thunderstorms will drench portions of the Great Lakes. The heaviest rain should be in Michigan.

Weather history for June 12: In 1884, Los Angeles' largest June rainstorm on record ended. A total of 0.87 inch fell on the 11th and 12th. In 1980, Atlantic City dropped to 37 degrees, a record low for the month of June.
