Tuesday's forecast: Intense heat South, severe storms Northeast
Intense heat will scorch much of the country on Tuesday while severe weather rattles the Northeast.
Northeast, Mid-Atlantic: Strong to severe thunderstorms are forecast to blast portions of the northeastern U.S. on Tuesday. Damaging winds and large hail are the primary threats, especially in New England.
West: Fierce, unrelenting heat will be the main story in much of the West, especially the Southwest. Temperatures will easily soar into the 90s and 100s in much of the West, though the Northwest will stay in the 80s.
Southeast: High heat and merciless humidity will bake the Southeast. A few thunderstorms will provide little relief in Florida.
