Tuesday's forecast: Wet Southeast, Northwest

The first day of September will be very warm and sunny in many areas, though showers and storms will dampen parts of the Southeast and Northwest.

East: Mid-summer heat will scorch much of the eastern U.S. on Tuesday as temperatures soar into the upper 80s and low 90s along with high humidity. Showers and thunderstorms are likely along the Gulf Coast, in Florida, and along the Southeast coast. Some flooding is possible in Florida.

West: Another soggy spot Tuesday will be western portions of Washington and Oregon. A few afternoon storms are also likely in the central and southern Rockies.  The rest of the West will be clear, warm and dry.
