Friday's forecast: Stormy southern Plains

The USA's two soggy spots Friday will be the southern Plains and the Northwest, while the eastern U.S. enjoys a clear fall day.

Central U.S.: Another strong storm will deliver heavy rain and thunderstorms to the southern Plains Friday, especially central portions of Texas and Oklahoma. Flash flooding is possible.

West: A separate storm will bring more rain to the Northwest on Friday, with Washington, Oregon and Idaho all expected to see wet conditions. Snow is possible in higher elevations of the northern and central Rockies.

East: Nearly the entire eastern third of the nation will see clear skies on Friday. Temperatures will be cool in the Northeast but mild to warm in the Southeast.
