Tuesday's forecast: Chilly West, soggy Southeast

Snow and cold will spread across the West Tuesday while the Southeast sees more rain. Sunny, warm conditions will rule in the central and northeastern U.S.

West: Some of the coldest air since last April will spread over much of the western U.S. on Tuesday as highs only top out in the 40s, 50s and 60s. Rainshowers will dampen lower elevations of the Intermountain West and California while snow coats the Rockies.

Southeast: A soggy Tuesday is on tap for the Carolinas, eastern Georgia and northern Florida as showers and thunderstorms roll through the region.

Central, northeastern U.S. Clear skies and mild temperatures in the 60s and 70s will be the rule in the Plains, Mississippi Valley, Great Lakes and Northeast.
