Tuesday's forecast: Snow for Northwest, Rockies

Tuesday's weather will feature mostly calm conditions in the central and eastern U.S. and a developing storm in the Northwest.
West: A potent winter storm will crank up Tuesday over the Northwest and northern Rockies. Heavy snow is likely at higher elevations of the Cascades, Rockies and Sierra Tuesday and into Wednesday. Coastal areas will see rain and wind.
East: After a frigid, frosty start, the eastern U.S. will see milder temperatures by the afternoon. Some morning snow showers are possible downwind of the Great Lakes, while Florida could see a few showers.
Central U.S.: The Plains and Midwest will see sunny skies and seasonal high temperatures in the 40s and 50s in the northern Plains to the 60s and 70s in the central and southern Plains.
