Storms will bring messy weather to much of the U.S. on the first full day of winter Tuesday, with widespread rain expected along the Gulf and East Coasts and rain and snow for the West Coast.

East: Though most of the eastern U.S. will be on the mild side with highs in the 50s, 60s and 70s, plenty of clouds and showers will make for a rather dreary day from the Southeast to New England.

Central U.S.: Severe thunderstorms, including the chance for some tornadoes, are possible in eastern Texas and southeastern Oklahoma. Drenching rain is likely for the Gulf Coast. Light snow will bring a wintry feel to the northern Plains.

West: Rain is forecast for much of the West Coast, all the way from Washington to Southern California. Inland, heavy snow will paste the Cascades, Sierra and Rockies.
