Wednesday's forecast: Chilly Northeast, springlike South

A wintry chill and snow will continue in the Great Lakes and Northeast Wednesday while springtime warmth spreads across the nation's southern tier.

Great Lakes, Northeast: A windy, snowy day is on tap for portions of the north-central and northeastern U.S. on Wednesday. High temperatures will only be in the chilly 20s, 30s and 40s for much of the region, with howling winds.

Southern tier: Most of the nation's southern tier, from California to Florida, will be sunny, mild and dry on Wednesday, with highs mainly in the 60s, 70s and 80s.

Northwest: Rain is likely in coastal portions of Washington, Oregon and northern California. Snow will fall in the Cascades.
