Severe thunderstorms could rattle the Upper Midwest on Tuesday while wintry weather hangs on in New England and the Rockies

Central U.S.: Severe storms are forecast for portions of the Midwest on Tuesday. The storms could produce large hail, strong winds and a few tornadoes. Northern Illinois and northern Indiana are at greatest risk. The rest of the central U.S. will be sunny and warm.
West: Snow will fly in the northern Rockies and Cascades on Tuesday while rain is likely along the Pacific Northwest coast. Southern California and the Southwest will be clear.
East: A damp and dreary Tuesday is forecast for most of New England on Tuesday, with some snow likely in northern New England. The Southeast will be sunny and dry.
