Friday's forecast: Soggy for the South

A stormy Friday is on tap for much of the South while the West enjoys a mostly dry and sunny day.
South: Showers and thunderstorms are forecast across portions of the South on Friday, all the way from southern Texas to northern Florida. The heaviest rain is likely in far southern Alabama, southern Mississippi and the panhandle of Florida.
West: Other than some heavy snow in the Colorado and Wyoming Rockies, the remaining western third of the nation will be clear, mild and dry on Friday. Temperatures will soar well into the 60s, 70s and 80s in much of California and the Southwest.
East: Cooler air will spill down the eastern seaboard on Friday as high temperatures only rise into the 40s and 50s for much of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. Some rain and snow showers are likely in the Northeast and near the Great Lakes.
