Thursday's forecast: Snowy Midwest, stormy South

Heavy snow will pound the upper Midwest Thursday while severe storms batter portions of the South.

Midwest: Snow is forecast to wallop the upper Midwest and western Great Lakes Thursday. Blizzard conditions are likely in Wisconsin.

South: Severe storms are expected in much of Alabama, Tennessee and Mississippi on Thursday, where wind, hail and a few tornadoes are possible.

West: Coastal and valley rain and higher elevation snow will pelt much of the northwestern U.S. on Thursday.
