1 dead as severe storms, floods hit the Plains

Severe storms, tornadoes and floods slammed the central U.S. on Tuesday, killing one person and leaving two injured.

One person died early Wednesday after floodwaters swept away a car near the small town of Davenport, Okla., about 50 miles northeast of Oklahoma City, the Tulsa World reported.

A tornado critically injured two people in Ford County, Kan. They were taken to a nearby hospital.

More than 30 tornadoes were reported in the Plains on Tuesday, mostly in Kansas, according to the Storm Prediction Center.

The National Weather Service issued tornado warnings for parts of eastern Colorado and the Texas Panhandle, but no injuries were reported.

Hail also battered the region. Damage was reported in both Colorado and Nebraska, KUSA-TV said.

Severe storms are forecast for the remainder of the week in the Great Plains.
