Thursday's forecast: Big storms in central U.S.

Severe storms are forecast to rumble in the central U.S. on Thursday while high heat scorches the East Coast.

Central U.S.: Severe storms are expected to develop across parts of the central and southern Plains on Thursday. The greatest chance for severe weather Thursday is in Kansas, Oklahoma and Nebraska.

East: Summer-like temperatures will continue for much of the East Coast on Thursday. Highs will soar into the 80s and 90s for much of the region. Some afternoon storms are possible in the Ohio Valley and Appalachians.

West: The Southwest and California will see clear skies and warm temperatures. Some showers are possible in the Pacific Northwest, Rockies and Great Basin.
