Thursday's forecast: Showers East, stormy Northwest

A cold front moving across the eastern U.S. will trigger a few showers while a potent storm slams into the Pacific Northwest.

East: Showers are likely along a cold front that's sliding from the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley into the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic on Thursday.

Northwest: Heavy rain and strong winds are forecast from Washington and Oregon into northern California Thursday. Some flash flooding is possible, along with snow in the higher elevations of the Cascades.

Central U.S.: A few thunderstorms are forecast in the southern Plains, though none are forecast to reach severe levels. The northern Plains will be cool, dry and sunny.
