Wednesday's forecast: Wintry in the Northwest, Rockies

A winter storm will intensify over the Northwest and northern Rockies on Wednesday while the rest of the nation stays mild.

West: Snow will become widespread across the interior western states and Rockies Wednesday, likely spreading to the High Plains later in the day. Showers will soak the Northwest coast.

Central U.S.: Afternoon highs are forecast to be 15 to 25 degrees above average across the Plains and portions of the Upper Midwest Wednesday.

East: Across the Southeast, wildfires across the southern Appalachians will continue to spread smoke across portions of northern Georgia, eastern
Tennessee, and western portions of the Carolinas. Showers and clouds will make for a dank day in New England.
