Dan Eidsmoe is colorblind, but he doesn't let that stop him from enjoying sunrise and sunset photography.
"I can still appreciate the brightness of some of these photos, even if I don't know what the colors are," he said.
His captivating photo was taken at sunset in Cannon Beach, Ore. Cannon Beach is about 80 miles west of Portland, along the rugged Pacific shore.
Sometimes, Eidsmoe lets other people or photographers "wander into" his photos. He said their silhouettes add balance to a photograph and help set the mood.
"Unfortunately, sunrise [and] sunset photos are seen by some as clichés," he said. "Although I am not offended by those who don't appreciate them."
Eidsmoe's tip for sunrise and sunset shooting is to shoot using a camera's manual mode.
"Although our cameras are very high-tech, they don't perform well shooting into direct light like this," he said. Manual mode, combined with a tripod and low ISO (around 100) makes for a clear, un-grainy picture, he said.
Eidsmoe took this picture using a Canon 70D. He doesn't edit much save for straightening a horizon or sharpening in Photoshop Elements. He doesn't trust himself to adjust things like the saturation level of a photo because of his colorblindness.
