Contributor Wayne Cragg lived on Washington's San Juan Island for a year-and-a-half, and captured a rare snow event.

"The island is a photographer's paradise," he said. "It was the perfect night."

He used a Sony Cybershot and edited the photo's contrast and saturation, to help enhance the lighting.

Cragg has enjoyed being able to share his adventures over the last nine years through photography. He says he's learned a lot since he took this shot in 2011.

"I truly loved how this photo captured the "old style" feeling of the holidays. I stood there for 10 minutes enjoying the untouched view," he said.

His advice?

"Get outside and explore," he said. "You can truly find the beauty in the world when no one else is around."
