There aren't many city dwellers who have a 360-degree view of Manhattan from the comfort of their apartment.

But Javan Ng does. And he regularly shoots photos from his roof on 31st Street.

"It's a view to die for," he says.

Ng moved to the United States about a year and a half ago from Singapore. And since arriving in "the City that Never Sleeps," he has taken up photography. He bought his first DSLR camera (a Nikon D7100) in May.

"I've been out on the street with it since," he says, adding that he has his camera with him at all times.

Ng says that he gets to discover new places through photography.

"What fascinates me is how amazing this city is. I've been to New York before, but those trips (were) mostly work-related." Actually living in the city, he says, is quite different.

"Every day, I walk down the same street; I see different things and people," he says. "One can never be bored living in Manhattan."

Ng's friends and family who still live in Singapore love to see his photos. "It's a good way to show them what I see here in this city," he says. "When they do visit, they want me to take them to the places I've photographed."

Ng shot this picture in RAW format, with minimum editing in Capture One.
