Contributor Paula Mansfield was attending a family birthday party in Lake Anna, near Mineral, Va., when she captured this silhouetted shot of her niece and grandson.

"I am usually not without my camera whenever I go somewhere that may present a good photo op," she said.

Mansfield's setup was a Nikon D90 and an 18-200mm lens. She didn't edit this photo, "whatsoever."

"I was amazed that it came out exactly as my eye saw it," she said.

Her favorite type of photography is scenic and landscape photography.

"This photo conveys to me a feeling of serenity and calm," said Mansfield. "It means more to me that the subjects of the photo are my family members."
